How Do You Feel About Obama Winning the Election?
I am just so thrilled to say Barack Obama is the President-Elect of the United States of America! This is a surreal, inspirational, and historical event for many Americans. I realize not everyone is as happy about this. I hope non-supporters can learn to respect and appreciate Obama as he works hard for our country and to earn their trust and support.
McCain conceded gracefully and set the tone for future peaceful collaborations between his supporters and Obama’s. I’ve already heard and read a lot of praise for McCain’s concession speech…kudos.
I think this excerpt from our President-Elect’s speech says it all:
“It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America…
…Let us resist the temptation to fall back on the same partisanship and pettiness and immaturity that has poisoned our politics for so long. Let us remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House - a party founded on the values of self-reliance, individual liberty, and national unity. Those are values we all share, and while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress. As Lincoln said to a nation far more divided than ours, We are not enemies, but friends though passion may have strained it must not break our bonds of affection. And to those Americans whose support I have yet to earn - I may not have won your vote, but I hear your voices, I need your help, and I will be your President too.”

This is a man, a politician, a leader I can believe in. I think America made a very wise decision.
I am excited, but still concerned. This nation still faces many challenges and I hope that this step will allow positive changes that we so desperately need at this time.
It has been a few days now and I am still rejoicing in this moment in history. Every day new thoughts and connections come to mind. I really believe he is destined for this and he is the realization of Dr. Kings dream.
Being that he is half white and half black, he is truly a bridge between the races. One that I believe will change us as a country forever. A change in the right direction for once in a very long time.

I’m an Australian and it has been amazing to see how our country, too, became fascinated by Obama. Usually we wouldn’t give American elections much thought. There’s clearly something special about this man!

I completely love him as the President. I mean he’s a figure in history, he’s adressing important things, but i also have fear, not of him but for him, there are many people who were angered by a African-American being elected i fear the worst but i hope people see past racism and see he’s a VERY good President.
