How Far Will You Go To Entertain Your Child?

Published by attygnorris at 11:28 pm under Parenting Edit This

I suppose this question could be answered by traveling mileage, but that’s not what I mean.  I’m talking about those times when you get on your hands and knees to bark like a dog, just to get a few giggles.  Or when you read the same book fifty times a day, just because your daughter’s face lights up when you read that story to her.  Or maybe you pay someone to come over for your son’s birthday party dressed as Spider Man because that’s his favorite superhero (great idea, Elana).

Well, my daughter absolutely loves Elmo… and if I’m being honest, so do I.  This perpetual 3 1/2 year-old fury “monster” is just too cute.  We make sure we watch him on Sesame Street every weekday morning at 9.

And, that’s why I dragged my family to Joe’s Crabshack tonight.

On the radio (102.1 or 97.9, can’t be sure which one), they’ve been advertising that if you want free tickets to the upcoming Elmo show, go to Joe’s.  If your child colors a picture from Joe’s and you send it in, you may be selected to win free tickets.

I thought this was the coolest thing since “Sesame Street Live:  Elmo’s Green Thumb” will be here, in Houston, at Reliant Stadium, during February.  It’s not that her coloring is all that great (she still prefers the nice white surface of a door to color on).  It’s not even that we stood a high chance of actually winning the tickets.  It was all about participating in a fun family event… and maybe getting free, front row tickets.

We went all the way to Joe’s, only to find out they (Joe’s staff) didn’t have a clue as to what we were talking about.  So, if you’re in Houston and planning to go to Joe’s for this contest, call ahead to make sure they’re participating.  The only redeeming quality of this trip was the apple crisp ice cream dessert we split.

We’ll have to buy the nose-bleed tickets now or wait until next time.  Bummer.

Those of you who’ve been keeping up with the blog are probably thinking she’s too young anyway.  Yes, she’s only fifteen months and probably too young to really appreciate what Elmo’s saying, but that doesn’t mean she likes him any less.  I agree that she’s too young to spend $250 on front row seats though.  Ha!  I’m not that silly… or am I?  She really would enjoy Elmo…

BTW, that Elmo Live doll is a hoot!

This is a video clip of Elmo singing his song.  Isn’t he adorable?  I think he may have to be our guest for my daughter’s birthday.

How far will you go to entertain your child?

Come on.. does he think Steffy is going to forget that Ridge is her father just for him?? SUch a loser!!

My eldest daughte, when she was very young, love a computer game hosted by Elmo. You can tell I love her because she played that game for hours and, don’t be upset, I can’t stand Elmo. His voice is fingernails on chalkboard to me. Her favorite thing was to turn of the lights and scare the computerized Elmo.

But I take my children to many thing I think they’ll enjoy and my five year old literally owns his weight in kid-friendly movies.

That same eldest daughter, the only concert I have ever been to live is for the Backstreet Boys when she was only ten. I did (and do) like the Backsteet Boys, but who can hear them with all the teenagers screaming? Oddly, she no longer likes them but I still do. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen to you with Elmo.

Your comments were such fun to read!

    Heidi–another smart child :)

Ladyjava–a remote control car for kitties??? No, way. LOL I’m sorry I spoiled the episode for you. I do that all the time with my brother who tvos American Idol. Rick is definitely heating things up on B&B.

Anne–thanks for the tip! Don’t think I won’t check this out. This might be worth a trip.

Stephanie–you can’t stand Elmo??? Say it isn’t so! Your daughter sounds really cool though…turning on the lights and scaring Elmo. Ha! Priceless.

You like the Backstreet Boys? We are really hitting and missing each other today. They get a thumbs down from me.

Ken–they are geniuses indeed! I’ll bet that was so cute, dressing up and all. I am ready to don any costume necessary to get a laugh out of my girl…or to just complete her look.

Emmie–”would do just about anything”– I think that’s true of me, as well.

Nicole–I’ve heard parents talking about Diego…and Dora. My nephew loves Diego and is getting really good at counting to ten in Spanish. French, too. My girl has a Dora doll (someone had to tell me that’s what it was cause I never watched Diego or Dora). I’ll bet that was quite the experience for her to meet a television star. :) They grow way too fast indeed.

    Thanks for the comments!

hi davida, both are girls love Elmo and yes, so do i,lol… She has a collection of 4 elmo dolls that talk now including the latest one that her “mima” granma bought for her which i think is to expensive. The 3 other elmo’s were from her sister when she was a baby and it still worked to now,its kaitlyn’s. It would be great to watch elmo live but with the price of the ticket i dont think so,lol.. maybe if i had a lot of money to spare i would not even think twice about it,lol…

That’s OK, Davida. That’s the normal reaction I get when I admit to liking the Backstreet Boys, but, hey, I’m honest. It’s kind of amazing to me how they got to be multi-platinum with me as their only fan.

But I’ve let them down. I haven’t even heard any albums since Black and Blue.

Melodyschif–4 Elmo dolls? Lucky girls. lol You know, I didn’t mean to imply that ALL the tickets were expensive. If I were to take Lil’ Miss to it, I would want her to be able to at least see Elmo, and THOSE are the expensive tickets. There are some nose-bleeds priced in the 40s.

Fitness Diva–yeah, she probably would. When she reads my blog one day and see what I was contemplating, she will probably have a fit. This show is just another one of those things she wouldn’t even remember. lol

Stacy–I know her imitation is too cute. Mine imitates The Count’s laugh (on Sesame Street). Now, that is funny.

Oh, wow! I know the kids LOVED the Dora party. How creative of you. And, being able to reuse the stuff was really good. Yes. When they are happy, we are.

Stephanie–I’ll bet you have 2.5 million copies of that album at home. lol
