What Makes a Great Love Story?

Published by attygnorris at 11:11 pm under Love and Romance Edit This

I feel that everyday should be a celebration of love, not just February 14th.  Nevertheless… HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

If you are cuddling up with your honey and enjoying some quality time, you may also be interested in watching a sappy love story together.  Yes, I am a sucker for a good love story, which means I have some favorites.  These are the movies that made it to my top 5 “Greatest Love Story” list:

1.  “The Notebook” (2004):

2.  “An Officer and a Gentleman” (1982):

3.  “City of Angels” (1998):

4.  “Love & Basketball” (2000):

5.  “Ghost” (1990):

So, what makes a great love story anyway?  Of course, it depends on the person, but to me:  undying devotion, passion, sacrifice, timelessness, mental connection, emotional intimacy, and physical chemistry, are components of a great love story.  A good love story also makes you appreciate the ones you love and those who love you.  I believe the list above embodies and encapsulates the spirit of romantic l-o-v-e.

Take the weekend to enjoy one or ALL of these movies.  They really are timeless and beautiful.  Be sure to keep a box of tissues nearby… don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I agree that love should be celebrated year round. One of my all time favorites is An Officer and a Gentleman. That one always gets the juices flowing :)

For me, The Bridges of Madison County is a really great love story.
I remember reading the book, and was finishing it while riding the train one day. Well, all of a sudden, there I was, crying on the train because I was so not ready for that sad ending! It shocked me, but even then, it was one of the most beautiful love stories that I have ever read.

Gin, thanks for dropping by. I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s day.

Frugelangelpsychic, “The Notebook” is, without a doubt, the absolute BEST love story.

Stephanie, make this the next movie you watch. You will not be disappointed. “The Notebook” sets the standard for which all other love stories are compared.

Nicole, I’m glad you enjoyed the list. Everyday is a great day for a good love story, isn’t it?

Anne, nothing’s wrong with you. We like what we like. I don’t like slap stick comedy, but I really get going with dark comedy. Some may think dark comedy is strange.

Jodapoet, Richard Gere will make juices flow in any movie. :)

TheFitnessDiva, my MIL was telling me about that movie. Either I haven’t seen it or it’s been so long I don’t remember. I’m going to put that one in my Netflix queue. Thanks.

Celebgossiper, I agree that “The Notebook” is a wonderful journey of love every time I see it. Just beautiful…

Ladyjava, welcome back. I know you missed the internet. I would have been having withdrawal ticks and everything. I’m glad you like the movie list.

    Thanks for the comments!!!
    Davida
